Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has recently urged for the impeachment of a federal judge who ruled against the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) regarding access to specific data from the U.S. Treasury Department. Since President Donald Trump resumed his presidency, Musk has been at the forefront of DOGE, advocating for a reduction in the size of the federal government and the elimination of unnecessary expenditures.
To provide context, U.S. District Judge Paul A. Engelmayer issued a ruling last weekend that limits access to the Treasury Department’s payment systems and other information related to “all political appointees, special government employees, and government employees detailed from an agency outside the Treasury Department.” A coalition of attorneys general from nearly 20 states initiated legal action against President Trump, the Department of the Treasury, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent last week. In response to the ruling, Musk expressed his outrage on X, stating, “A corrupt judge protecting corruption. He needs to be impeached NOW!” His comments were in reaction to a post by conservative commentator Glenn Beck, who also addressed the issue.
Beck remarked in his own post on X, “Let me see if I have this right. The Treasury Secretary CANNOT access any data from the treasury? Wow. Who is afraid the secrets are coming out? This judge was not elected nor given a mandate by the people. Enough is enough. WE THE PEOPLE demand transparency. IT IS OUR MONEY, NOT YOURS.”
Additionally, the well-known conservative account Amuse provided an extensive overview of the situation. Criticizing the ruling, the post stated, “In an egregious and unconstitutional assault on executive authority, Judge Paul Engelmayer has unilaterally forbidden all of Trump’s political appointees—including Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent—from accessing Treasury Department data.”
Amuse further asserted, “This ruling, created without legal precedent or constitutional justification, is nothing short of judicial sabotage. Even more concerning, it was issued ex parte—meaning Trump administration lawyers were not notified, were not allowed to present their case, and wThe article further contended that there are no legal justifications for such a ruling. “Engelmayer’s order lacks legal support. He does not reference any statutory foundation because none is available,” stated Amuse. “He fails to provide a constitutional justification, as the Constitution directly opposes his position. Instead, he creates a false narrative: that the appointed Treasury Secretary is merely a ceremonial figure, similar to a powerless monarch, while unelected officials—who are not accountable to voters—manage the nation’s finances. This represents judicial tyranny disguised as legal reasoning.”
Below, you can watch a USAID employee recount the incident involving DOGE raiding their office:
After detailing the consequences of the ruling, which effectively deprived “the executive branch of its own financial information,” Amuse remarked, “This is lawfare at its most audacious: a blatant, partisan power grab cloaked in legal terminology. If this ruling is upheld, it establishes a precedent whereby any left-leaning judge can unilaterally diminish the President’s authority and transfer it to the administrative state. This is neither democracy nor law; it is judicial dictatorship.”
Amuse insisted that the Supreme Court must “step in and reverse” this “clear breach of constitutional governance,” and that those involved should face “sanctions.” The article concluded, “This is not merely a legal issue—it is a judicial coup against the elected government. It must not be permitted to persist.”
