Former President Donald Trump has proposed an ambitious new missile defense system called the Golden Dome, a $175 billion initiative aimed at protecting the U.S. from advanced missile threats using space-based technology. Inspired by Israel’s Iron Dome, the system would use satellites, space-based interceptors, and advanced sensors to detect and neutralize ballistic missiles, hypersonic weapons, drones, and space-launched attacks at different phases of flight.
Led by U.S. Space Force General Michael Guetlein, the project has attracted interest from over 180 companies, including SpaceX, Palantir, and Anduril. Canada has also shown interest in participating as part of a NORAD upgrade.
