In a stunning admission that’s igniting outrage across social media, a top aide to President Joe Biden was caught saying the quiet part out loud: the administration’s concern isn’t democracy for everyone — it’s democracy for them.
During a recent MSNBC appearance, Anita Dunn, a senior advisor to Biden, said the upcoming election is “not just about whether we get to keep our democracy, but whether they get to take it away from us.”
Critics are calling the quote chilling — suggesting the White House sees itself as the only legitimate power, and any opposing view (especially Trump’s) as a threat to be eliminated rather than debated.
“Wait… ‘take it away from us’? That’s not how democracy works,” one Twitter user wrote.
“Democracy isn’t owned by one party. This proves they think they own the system,” another added.
TRUMP = EXISTENTIAL THREAT?
Dunn’s comments come as the Biden campaign ramps up efforts to paint Donald Trump as a clear and present danger to American institutions — even as Trump dominates polls in key battleground states and fundraising totals.
But this isn’t the first time Dunn has sparked controversy. Previously, she praised communist dictator Mao Zedong as a political philosopher, leading some to question her deep influence inside the administration.
WILL THIS BACKFIRE?
Conservatives argue the language from Biden’s camp is becoming increasingly authoritarian, framing disagreement as “undemocratic” and positioning any return of Trump as a collapse of the system.
Political analysts warn this strategy may only fuel more division, especially among independents already skeptical of both parties.
“This isn’t about saving democracy,” one commenter said. “It’s about saving their power.”
