The Silver Mistake

At a busy jewelry store in the heart of the city, Mira pretended to browse the silver chains, her fingers gliding across the glass. She glanced around—no one watching too closely.

She quietly unclasped her own necklace, snapping it just enough to make it seem broken. Then she spotted him: an older man in a wheelchair, shirt pocket slightly open.

In one smooth motion, as she walked past him, she slipped the chain into his pocket and called out, “Security! That man stole my necklace!”

The room froze. Staff rushed over. The man looked confused as a guard reached into his shirt pocket—and pulled out the silver chain.

But then, the man calmly pulled out a badge.

“I’m Detective Rami. And you’re under arrest for attempted theft and false accusation.”

Mira’s heart sank. The trap she’d set had snapped shut—but not on him.
